The Douglas Center Making Reusable Fabric Masks to Meet the High Demand from Covid-19

Skokie, IL - The Douglas Center, a non-profit organization located in Skokie, Illinois is in production in manufacturing multi-layered fabric masks for purchase to the public. In recent weeks, the center has received hundreds of requests for this urgently needed product. Many communities throughout the Chicago metro area have issued directives for the wearing of masks in public creating a demand for them. Utilizing their commercial sewing division capabilities, The Douglas Center developed a program to meet the demand.
The Douglas Center has distributed hundreds of masks to local residential homes for individuals with special needs, school districts, employees, public officials and local residents. “The beauty of this program is that it will also create additional work skills training for our program participants with special needs upon their return”,” stated Rifath Khan, Chief Executive Officer. “Our participants who work in our commercial sewing division will be trained to manufacture this product and in doing so will continue to be able to meet any future needs within the community.”

About The Douglas Center
The Douglas Center is a non-profit organization that provides community day services for individuals with intellectual, developmental and physical disabilities. The center provides unique opportunities for acquiring skills for future employment and learning to manage their disability as they get older. The comprehensive programs, clinical services, training programs, employment opportunities, developmental rehabilitation, “Art From The Heart” creations program and seniors program focus on assisting each individual in the management of their disabilities, while building self-esteem and developing and/or improving existing social, work and independent living. Today, The Douglas Center provides services for over 140 participants daily and provides a home away from home for the hardworking and dedicated individuals they serve.
