Fancy Plants Cafe To Open In Lake View
The vegan cafe is set to open its doors in the first week of January, its owner announced.
CHICAGO — The vegan coffee shop Fancy Plants Cafe is scheduled to open in Lake View in the new year, the shop announced. The cafe is slated to open Jan. 5 at 613 W. Briar Place, and will serve Dark Matter Coffee and dairy-free drinks.
The cafe will also be hosting a New Year's Eve five-course dinner in the new space. The dinner will feature dishes such as cashew creme fraiche and kelp caviar, french onion soup, tempeh, truffle fondue and lentil bolognese.
Fancy Plants Cafe owner chef Kevin Schuder hired pastry chef Tif Lowder, who will be making chocolate pie with cherries and chocolate leaf for the New Year's dinner.

In a Facebook post on Dec. 19, the cafe said it "aced" its health inspection, and was awaiting its business license.
