Former Cubs Pitcher Kerry Wood Found Body in Belmont Harbor
The ex-Chicago Cub was paddle boarding when he made the discovery, police say. He's retired from pitching but is still the team's spring instructor.

Former Chicago Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood was the man who discovered the body found floating in Belmont Harbor Monday morning, police told the Chicago Tribune.
Patch first reported on the man found in the harbor Monday afternoon, but few details were known at the time.
A marine diving team recovered the adult black male around 11:30 a.m. at the 3500 block of the 3500 block of North Belmont Harbor Drive, the road on the east side of the harbor, Officer Jose Estrada said.

Now police are saying it was Wood who found the man while paddle boarding and immediately dialed 911 to notify police, the Tribune writes. Although he retired from pitching in May of 2012, Wood is still the Cubs’ spring instructor.
The man is identified as a 40-year-old from the 5400 block of North Broadway, CBS Chicago reports. On his left wrist was an identification tag showing the man was reported missing by a North Side nursing home since June 19.

The Wood family has no comment about the incident.
This is the second person to be recovered from Belmont Harbor in the last month, with Ramon Benavidez, 32, drowning in the lake near the same spot on June 6. Divers spent 20 minutes looking for Benavidez before finding him in the harbor, and he was later pronounced dead after an emergency transfer to St. Joseph’s Hospital.
