Former Southport Restaurant Finds New Home on North Shore

Frida's, a Southport Mexican restaurant famous for its fish tacos, will open a Lake Forest location sometime next year.

So long Lakeview, hello Lake Forest.

Frida's, a Southport Mexican restaurant that closed its doors in August, will be opening a new location in Lake Forest next year, owner Maroene Benitez told DNA Info. She's unsure if the new location — which will feature old favorites like mole, fish tacos and oaxano — will have the same name as the Southport location, but she does know that the menu will change regularly based off of available fresh ingredients.

Frida's, which was named after artist Frida Kahlo, closed in August because of rising rent costs at her 3757 N. Southport Ave. location, the DNA Info article states. Benitez is also helping her daughter with La Taquiza in Northbrook. La Taquiza had an Andersonville location, but that was also closed due to high rents.
