Free Event for Fathers this Weekend at UIC Forum

'Fathers Helping Fathers' hosts Dad School, providing free legal and social support for Dads working to become closer to their kids.

A free event for fathers in the Chicagoland area will be held this coming Saturday at the UIC Forum, hosted by national non-profit Fathers Helping Fathers.

The goal of ‘Dad School’ is to provide support for fathers who are working toward developing a deeper relationship with their children, amid situations such as divorce, and other domestic discord that many times create child custody and visitation issues.

The non-profit was founded on the idea that the relationship between children and their fathers is vital for a child’s overall development, and the goal is to remove the obstacles to that ever-important relationship.

Among the opportunities are free, one-on-one legal advice provided by attorneys volunteering their time and a number of social service organizations providing information and education. Speakers will lead break-out sessions to provide support for Dads throughout the day.

A keynote will be presented by Phillip Jackson, founder and executive director of ‘The Black Star Project,’ along with others who will share information about alternatives to litigation, CPR, infant and child care and a story about a father’s perseverance as he worked to strengthen the relationship with his children.
