Get Artsy: Lakeview East Festival of the Arts Hitting Broadway

It's the ninth year the festival will land in Lake View, bringing nearly 200 juried artists to the streets.

Chicago summers may be packed with back-to-back food and outdoor music events, but one street festival in Lake View is ready to shine the spotlight on something more unique: fine art.

It’s the Ninth Annual Lakeview East Festival of the Arts, headed to North Broadway Street on Saturday and Sunday. Organized by the Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce, the festival is all about packing as many artists as possible onto Broadway between Belmont Avenue and Hawthorne Place.

More than 40,000 people swarmed to Broadway during last year’s event. But with more artists and entertainment than ever before, Lake View may see even more this year.

“The Lakeview East Festival of the Arts showcases more than 175 juried artists featuring world class original paintings, sculpture, photography, furniture, jewelry and more,” representatives wrote on the festival’s website. “In addition to the art on sale, the festival features live demonstrations and entertainment stages where some of Chicago’s favorite musicians play throughout the weekend.”

Almost every medium will be featured at the event including photography, printmaking, mixed media, ceramics, clay, collage, fiber, glass, sculpture, furniture and more.

The festival, however, won’t only be about the artwork. Local chefs from restaurants like Bar Pastoral, Revolucion Mexican Steakhouse and D.S. Tequila will be on hand all day Sunday giving cooking demonstrations. The entire schedule can be found online.

That’s combined with the slew of bands ready to take two different stages at intervals throughout the weekend.
