Historic Wrigley Mansion Sells For $4.65M

After almost a year on the market and several big price drops, the nine-bedroom home was sold Friday.

CHICAGO, IL — The city's historic landmark Wrigley Mansion was sold Friday after dropping several times from its original asking price of $7.15 million. The 13,705-square-foot home went on the market last February, according to realtor.com. Since then, the price dropped to $6.99 million in March, $6.65 million in June and $5.98 million in August. It's sale price: $4.65 million.

Built in 1896, the Italian Renaissance-style home was commissioned and originally owned by Schoenhofen Brewing Company owner Joseph Theurer. Chewing gum mogul William Wrigley Jr. bought the property in 1911, but the family left the house empty during the Great Depression and in the years following that period.

The Wrigley Mansion was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, and the city considered making it the mayor's official residence in 1984.
