Most Interesting Mac n’ Cheese Found in Lake View, Expert Says

Three area restaurants made the cut after a mac n' cheese expert (yes, there is such a thing) compiled a list of her favorite and most interesting dishes in Chicago.

When on the hunt for Chicago’s most unique and interesting plates of mac ‘n cheese, look no further than Lake View.

Mac n’ Cheese expert Kristen Kuchar toured the city for the online foodie publication Eater Chicago and rounded up 14 of the most interesting ways restaurants are serving up the delicious dish.

What makes Kuchar an expert? The Chicago native recently went around the nation with a craving for mac n’ cheese and recently released her first book, Mac 'N Cheese to the Rescue

The winner of “Most Interesting” went to Dimo’s Pizza, a restaurant currently building their second location in Bucktown at 1615 N. Damen Ave. Also on the list included DMK Burger Bar, coming in second place, and Cheesie's Pub & Grub, snagging sixth place.

Here’s what Kuchar has to say about the three locations in Lake View:

Dimo's Pizza

3463 N. Clark St.
“The Mac Pizza” Instead of pepperoni and sausage, the toppings for this pizza are macaroni noodles and cheddar cheese with a homemade crème fraiche base. No wonder it’s Dimo’s most popular pizza slice.

DMK Burger Bar

2954 N. Sheffield Ave.
“Mac & Cheese #2” Charred balsamic red onions make this more complex but the gruyere and smoked bacon shine through, too.

Cheesie's Pub & Grub

958 W. Belmont Ave.
“The Mac” Grilled cheese is almost the cousin of mac n’ cheese, so Cheesie’s combining the two makes perfect sense. The sandwich is filled with homemade macaroni and cheese, American cheese and Merkt’s cheddar cheese.
