Although there’s a drastic difference between the richest and poorest blocks in Lake View, it’s nothing compared to blocks just a stone’s throw from the community’s borders. In Uptown, near the corner of Lawrence Avenue and North Broadway, the median household income is just $17,800, the website reports.
And seemingly the wealthiest homeowners on the North Side live in North Center, not Lincoln Park as some might guess. The richest people found on the website live south of Belmont Avenue to Diversey Parkway, and west of Ravenswood Avenue to Damen Avenue, just on the border of Lake View. The median household income there is about $135,000.
Rich Blocks, Poor Blocks also looks at the median monthly rent costs. Although renters around Wrigleyville come in about $50 behind, the most expensive rent in town is that closest to the Diversey Harbor. Renters living south of Wellington Avenue to Diversey Parkway and east of Commonwealth Avenue to Lake Michigan are forking up almost $1,575 a month.
And just a few blocks east of where Lake View’s wealthiest homeowners live are where residents will find the cheapest rent in town. Those living south of Irving Park Road to Grace Street and east of Southport Avenue to Seminary Avenue are paying roughly $773 a month.
