Lincoln And George Water Main Project Begins In Lake View

CHICAGO — Traffic and parking restrictions can be expected along sections of Lincoln and George over the next few months while a water main is being installed, the city's Department of Water Management announced. The water main will be installed in Lincoln from Racine to Southport and in George from Lincoln to Southport, the city said.

The project is expected to be completed by June; however dates may change depending on weather and other factors, the city said.

The street may close temporarily to traffic for safety reasons, but people will always be able to reach their home or business, the city said. Outside of working hours, a travel lane will be left open for local traffic only.

No Parking signs will be posted as needed during work hours (generally 7 am – 4 p.m., Monday - Friday). Parking outside of those hours will be allowed, but cars will need to be moved by the start of the next workday. Crews will try to preserve as much parking space as possible.

When construction crews switch over the services from the old main to the new water main, water service will be interrupted in the area, the city said. The city will give homes and businesses in the area 24 hours notice when this is going to happen; however, in the event of an emergency shutdown during construction, they may not be able to give prior notice, the city warned.
