Celebrating the lives of cancer survivors

Cancer Survivors Day is a national movement to honor all those touched by cancer.

In honor of National Cancer Survivors Day, Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center hosted “Superheroes of Hope,” its annual event to celebrate and honor cancer survivors and their loved ones.

Approximately 150 people attended the event, which the hospital hosted on its own campus.

“We are celebrating life with all of these brave men and women to remind ourselves and our communities that no one fights cancer alone. They have all inspired so much hope in their family, friends and all of us at the Creticos Cancer Center and it is an honor to be involved in their care,” says Allison McCann, survivorship program coordinator at Advocate Illinois Masonic.

Advocate Illinois Masonic’s cancer center team coordinated the day’s events, which included a survivors’ walk around the hospital campus, a nutrition demonstration, massage therapy, a Bollywood class and yoga. Event organizers hope the events were a fun and engaging way to encourage health and wellness.
