Major Construction On Diversey Postponed

A new water main was set to be installed in mid May, but has been rescheduled for the fall, the city said.

CHICAGO, IL — Construction for a new water main was scheduled to begin this week along Diversey, but has now been pushed until the fall, Ald. Scott Waguespack (32nd) announced. The water main installation — which will go in from Damen to Racine — was delayed due to work at the Lathrop Homes site, the alderman said. Waguespack said it will be postponed until "at least" September.

Here is a list of the areas the project will impact:

  • Eastbound traffic and parking lanes of Diversey from Damen to Hermitage
  • Westbound traffic and parking lanes of Diversey from Hermitage to Paulina
  • Eastbound traffic and parking lanes of Diversey from Paulina to Ashland
  • Westbound traffic and parking lanes of Diversey from Ashland to Racine will be resurfaced along with the repair of the damaged parkway and sidewalk.

Waguespack said he requested that the entire street be repaved after construction is complete.

He said he will notify residents when he finds out the date of the new construction, but advised residents to "think about making alternative parking and route plans" for the fall.
