Milt's Extra Innings Deli Closes In Lake View
The deli struggled to compete with other options in the area, its owner said.

CHICAGO — The baseball-themed kosher deli Milt's Extra Innings has closed its doors in Lake View. The owner of Milt's Barbecue, Jeff Aeder, opened the deli next door early last year at 3409 N. Broadway.
"We have struggled to compete with the other options around us, and sales at MEI are not what we projected them to be," Aeder wrote in a letter to customers. "The past year-plus has been an incredible one with a steep and gratifying learning curve and many, many amazing experiences."
The deli was dedicated to offering people with intellectual and developmental disabilities meaningful employment.

"We are exploring plans to open a new business in the space that has a stronger financial outlook and would suit the emerging skill-set of many of our employees," Aeder said. "We will keep you all updated as our new project unfolds and as we more clearly define our needs moving forward."
Aeder showcased his love for baseball with memorabilia throughout the space, as well as a display dedicated to Jewish players, coaches and involvement in baseball throughout history.

Milt's Extra Innings offered classic deli sandwiches, salads, soups, spaghetti and meatloaf.
Many of the MEI catering items will still be offered through Milt's Barbecue next door, Aeder said.
