Mutt Strut Rescheduled After Erratic Weekend Weather
The annual event to benefit Chicago Canine Rescue is moved to another weekend after anticipated downpours put a damper on the festivities.
Chicago Canine Rescue’s annual Mutt Strut in Lake View had a case of the rainy blues Saturday, causing organizers to reschedule to ensure 2013’s event is a complete success.
“Late in the morning on Friday, it appeared that Mother Nature was going to send a lashing of rain and thunderstorms down on Saturday,” wrote CCR on its website. “Since the Mutt Strut is CCR’s BIGGEST and MOST IMPORTANT fundraiser for our charity, we wanted to give it the greatest chance for success.
“From past experience we know a rainy Mutt Strut is disappointing for kids, parents, dogs and vendors alike, closing down some of the activities and making the walk miserable.”

That’s why the annual Mutt Strut has been officially rescheduled for Oct. 26 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., starting at the corner of Southport and Newport avenues. The event includes a 1.5 mile walk and block party with residents’ pooches, a dog wash, carnival games and much more.
CCR organizers say the rain-delay only affords them more time to make the festival a smashing success.

“We are so proud and impressed with the positive response from our supporters, who have expressed excitement that the three extra weeks give you extra time to raise even more vital funds for the pups!” they wrote. “It has also given us extra time to add even more fun activities to the day, including a costume contest, CCR Alumni photo ops, canine cookie decorating, temporary pet tattoos, and more!”
The area organization says its still far from its $70,000 fundraising goal, so a successful Mutt Strut allows them to continue rescuing dogs from euthanasia.
