Report of Socca Closing Are False, Employee Says

The Lake View restaurant was reported to soon close after a Facebook post from the owner, but an employee at Socca said the rumor isn't true.

Despite a report that quotes owner Roger Herring as saying he plans to close his restaurant Socca, an employee maintains the story is false.

Sitting at 3301 N. Clark St. on the corner of School Street, the popular restaurant is known for its hearty Italian dishes, $10 Maine lobster night and was even featured on Food Network.

Chicago nightlife expert and Chicago Tribune contributor Audarshia Townsend wrote in her blog 312 Dining Diva describing a post Herring wrote on Facebook Wednesday.

"I made the 86 board at Socca. Next chapter...different book!" Herring wrote on Facebook, Audarshia reports. "...it was time to go. Sign a lease or go! I didn't sign."

Herring’s Facebook profile is private, meaning his actions aren’t visible to the public.

But an employee at the restaurant said the blog post isn’t true, telling Patch he confirmed the rumor is false with Socca’s owner himself.

“That’s not the case,” he said. “We’re not planning on closing. … I talked with the owner of the restaurant.”
