Texters Beware: Lake View Robberies Have Neighbors on Edge
Tunney addresses the apparent uptick in crime, saying he's met with police after a string of weekend robberies.

Lake View neighbors are apparently on edge after a string of weekend robberies has Ald. Tom Tunney (44th) turning to his Facebook page urging residents to be cautious.
As of Tuesday, Tunney said police had six people in custody, as well as two others they believe are connected to weekend robberies targeting iPhones. Community Outreach Director Erin Duffy confirmed with the Windy City Times the neighborhood saw 6-7 robberies between Friday and Sunday.
“I acknowledge that these are very serious incidents and I am working very closely with Commander Voulgaris, who is putting strategies in place to address these robberies.,” Tunney wrote. “These incidents primarily occur between 1am-5am when patrons are leaving bars and victims have been targeted for their iPhone.”

The alderman also said he plans to meet with area business owners to discuss safety initiatives they can practice with customers.
In addition, Tunney says he’s talking with patrols mainly covering the Belmont and Sheffield Avenue intersection, Clark Street and Halsted Street, as those locations seem to be the target.

“We all need to be aware of our surroundings and be proactive by calling 911 with as much information as possible when you see someone behaving suspiciously or committing a crime,” Tunney said. “I am urging residents to attend their upcoming CAPS meeting. I am very involved in CAPS and attend these meetings regularly.”
