Wake Held for Lake View Firefighter Who Saved Boy in 1963
The man passed away, with the boy he saved in a half-centry ago at his wake.
A Lake View firefighter who made headlines half a century ago has passed away, and friends and family gathered to remember the hero.
In 1963 Eddie Groya saved a then 5-year-old Cuban refugee from a burning apartment building, WGN reports. Today that little boy is Lieutenant Rick Vega, a Chicago firefighter working out of the same station as Groya.
