Water Main To Be Installed Along Nelson In Lake View

Starting in mid-June, crews will begin installing more than 500 feet of water main, the city said.

CHICAGO, IL — The city's Department of Water Management has announced that a new water main will be installed in Lake View along Nelson from Greenview to Ashland. The city is working with NPL Construction Company to install 576 feet of the new 8-inch water main. Work is expected to begin in mid-June and wrap up by mid-September. The city said dates may change depending on weather and other factors.

No parking will be allowed as needed during work hours — around 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Parking will be allowed outside those hours, but drivers must move their cars before the start of the next work day, warned Ald. Scott Waguespack (32nd).

"When they are working in the street, they may close it to traffic for safety reasons, but you will always be able to reach your home or business," the alderman said in his newsletter to constituents. "Outside of working hours, a travel lane will be left open for local traffic only. "

Water service will be interrupted when crews switch from the old main to the new one, and 24-hour notice will be given to those residents who will be affected, the alderman said. In the event of an emergency shutdown, the city may not be able to offer warning, Waguespack said.
