Wrigleyville Taco Bell Scheduled To Be Demolished

The beloved Taco Bell on Addison Street will close by the end of October.

CHICAGO — For 24 years, the Wrigleyville Taco Bell has offered cheap fast food for hungry fans coming out of Wrigley Field after games. But it's time to say goodbye to the iconic hangout spot: the restaurant is set to close at the end of October. Demolition is scheduled to begin Nov. 1.

The Taco Bell at 1111 W. Addison St. will be replaced with a three-story retail building. The new space will include a gym and a climbing wall on the top two floors.

The property's leasing broker, Marc Offit of Braden Real Estate, said Taco Bell must close by the end of October, according to a report by the Chicago Tribune.

The Taco Bell has seen a lot of action over the years: earlier this year a man was stabbed by his manager there during a dispute over a woman, and in 2016, the restaurant's sign was stolen. Videos of several boozy, post-game brawls have also been circulated around social media over the past few years. But mostly the action has been positive — for more than two decades, taco lovers from across Chicagoland have flocked there for cheap eats and good times.

Last year, fans of the Taco Bell rallied to save the spot when they found out it was going to shut its doors. "Save Taco Bell" T-shirts were even designed to protest the closure, according to a report by DNAinfo.
