HAWTHORN WOODS, IL – One person was injured after a lightning strike and fire at a Hawthorn Woods home Saturday night. Authorities responded to the blaze on Newhaven Drive at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday. Firefighters found fire and smoke conditions in the attic of the home and quickly evacuated the residents.
The blaze started after lightning struck the home. A resident was taken to Condell Medical Center with minor injuries, according to a news release.
The home is uninhabitable and the blaze caused $100,000 in damage. The Red Cross is assisting the family with temporary living arrangements.
