2 Rescued By Firefighters After Row Boat Overturns On Lake Zurich

Firefighters rescued two people clinging to a buoy on Lake Zurich early Monday morning after their row boat overturned.

The Lake Zurich Fire Department responded around 2:02 a.m. Monday to the 100 block of North Old Rand Road near Breezewald Park for a report of three people in the water on Lake Zurich.

Lake Zurich Fire Chief John Malcolm said that firefighters arrived to the beachfront and heard the victims calling out for help from the lake.

Rescue divers deployed a dive boat and were able to rescue two people clinging onto a marker buoy after their 12-foot row boat overturned.

The two victims were brought to shore for a medical evaluation by paramedics, Malcolm said. A third victim was reported missing and divers began searching for them.

The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was activated to bring additional area fire department divers and boats to the scene to assist.

The first two victims were interviewed and police learned the third victim swam to shore and was safe at a residence one block from the lakefront, Malcolm said.

All three victims were evaluated and did not need to be transported to the hospital.

Firefighters from Long Grove, Barrington, Wauconda, Buffalo Grove, Lake Forest, Lincolnshire, Hoffman Estates, Rolling Meadows, Wheeling, Arlington Heights and Palatine Rural assisted.
