LAKE ZURICH, IL — The Lake Zurich Fire Department is reminding residents to have their fireplaces regularly inspected following a chimney fire at a home in town Wednesday morning, fire officials said. The blaze broke out at the home in the 1000 block of Geneva Lane just before 8 a.m., according to a news release from the fire department.

Heavy smoke was reported coming from the eaves and garage area of the house. The residents were all able to get out of the home safely and then called 911, fire officials said.

The fire was contained to the wall and ceiling area around the fireplace, authorities said. The home sustained fire, smoke, and water damage with preliminary estimates of $60,000 in damage and $250,000 in property and contents that were saved.
