D95, Ela Coalition Host Teen Drinking Presentation

Understand the laws and consequences of teen drinking at Tuesday, April 9 event.

Lake Zurich Community Unit School District 95 and the Ela Coalition Against Youth Substance Abuse will hold an engaging discussion for parents, community members and teens on Teen Drinking...Responsibility and Consequences.

  • Learn the facts about drinking among Lake Zurich High School students and the prevention efforts and services available;
  •   Understand student accountabilities and responsibilities;
  •   Understand the laws, ordinances, and consequences.
    It’s never too early or too late to get the facts. Take this opportunity to learn about teen drinking and obtain accurate information to make informed decisions.

    The event will be held on April 9 at 7 p.m. in the 380 Surryse Road, Lake Zurich.

Presenters include:
Barbara Belke, an addiction counselor and Student Assistance Program Coordinator at Lake Zurich Community Unit School District 95 will discuss the high school's Social Norm Media Campaign, a prevention program that addresses student perceptions of peer usage.


Terry Vandergrift will discuss Social Hosting laws and local ordinances. Terry, a retired Deputy Chief with Lake Zurich Police Department, currently works for the State's Attorney's Office as an Investigator in the Drug Prosecution/Asset Forfeiture section and was integral in developing the original social hosting ordinance.

Mark Canaday from Northern Illinois University will discuss the new rules of college life and the responsibilities and accountabilities that go along with student alcohol use in the college environment.
