Elderly Lake Zurich Man Critically Injured in 2-Vehicle Crash Near Wauconda
A teen driver and 5-year-old male passenger in his car were also critically injured in the crash Thursday afternoon.

A 72-year-old Lake Zurich man was critically injured and a teen and 5-year-old boy were also taken to the hospital Thursday afternoon following a two-vehicle crash near Wauconda
The Lake County Sheriff’s Department was called to the crash at about 3:25 p.m. on Thursday on Fairfield Road north of Route 176 in unincorporated Wauconda where they found a 2006 Cadillac DTS and a 2013 Hyundai Sonata with significant damage, according to a Lake County Sheriff’s Office press release.

A preliminary investigation showed the driver of the Hyundai, an 18-year-old man from Wauconda, was traveling north on Fairfield Road when he collided with the Cadillac, driven by the elderly Lake Zurich man, as the Cadillac was leaving the Lakewood Dog Park, 27411 North Fairfield Road. The Cadillac was attempting to make a left turn onto southbound Fairfield Road when the vehicle pulled in front of the northbound Hyundai.
The front end of the Hyundai struck the driver’s side of the Cadillac.

The 72-year-old driver of the Cadillac was taken to Condell Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The 18-year-old driver of the Hyundai and a 5-year-old male passenger in the vehicle were also both taken to Condell Hospital -- both with non-life-threatening injuries
The driver of the Hyundai, an 18 year-old man, of Wauconda, was transported to Condell Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A five year-old male passenger in the Hyundai was also transported to Condell Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
