Fire Destroys Former Hackney's Restaurant In Lake Zurich
Police said cause of fire is under investigation.

LAKE ZURICH, IL — The building of a former well-known Lake Zurich restaurant went up in flames early Sunday morning, and as of Monday morning, little remains. The Daily Herald reported a fire broke out around 1:40 a.m. Sunday at the former Hackney's at 880 N. Old Rand Road, where firefighters from more than 20 local departments battled the flames for nearly two hours, some putting out hot spots past 7:30 a.m.
According to The Daily Herald, damage estimates weren't available Sunday, but officials said no injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Hackney's closed its doors in March 2017 after nearly 50 years in business when its owner retired, and several people, including former employees, stopped by Sunday to see the damage. After the owner put the restaurant's building and 11-acre site for sale, Lake Zurich's village board approved a proposal earlier this year to build a two-story Life Time Fitness health club on the site, the news report said.
