Hawthorne Woods Fire Damages Home

A fire caused major damage to a vacant home on Fairfield Road in Hawthorn Woods Saturday night, Lake Zurich firefighters said.

The fire was reported as an outdoor smoke investigation at 6:37 p.m. in the 20000 block of Fairfield Road. Police searched the area and discovered smoke coming from the two-story house, according to a release.

Firefighters found smoke coming from the second floor and fire from the rear of the home, the release stated.

Firefighters said the home is unsafe.

Among the fire departments responding were: Barrington, Buffalo Grove, Cary, Countryside, Deerfield, Fox Lake, Fox River Grove, Libertyville, Mundelein, Nunda and Wauconda.

The fire was contained to the home.
