Lake County Woman Makes Up Report of Being Attacked While Jogging: Police

A Lake County woman made up a story about being attacked while jogging, police said Tuesday.

Jessica C. Kramer, of the 23500 block of North Echo Lake Road in unincorporated Lake Zurich, is now charged with attempted disorderly conduct for fabricating the story. A $10,000 warrant was issued for her arrest and she surrendered herself to the custody of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday.

Kramer called authorities at about 3 a.m. on Sunday to report the attack, according to a Lake County Sheriff’s Office press release. Deputies responded and Kramer told officers that at about 2:50 a.m., she had been outside jogging when two males drove past her in an older model pick-up truck. After passing her, they returned and stopped behind, she told police.

She said the male passenger got out of the pick-up truck and attempted to grab her arm. She added that the male pulled her hair and struck her at least two times on the back of the head before she was able to run home to safety, according to the news release.

Other local police agencies responded to the area to assist the sheriff’s office in locating the suspects, according to the news release. Evidence technicians and detectives also assisted with the investigation.

“As detectives continued with the investigation, it was learned Kramer fabricated her entire account of events,” according to the news release. “Kramer admitted she lied to law enforcement about the attack for attention due to relationship problems with her boyfriend.”

Kramer is expected in court on Sept. 24.
