Lake Zurich may simplify liquor licenses

Businesses and police have had input on the proposed changes to the liquor code

Lake Zurich officials are considering a proposal to simplify the village's liquor license code, according to the Daily Herald. The village currently has 28 different classes of licenses for the 62 establishments authorized to sell alcohol, and the different licenses come with different time periods throughout the day when businesses can sell alcohol.

Lake Zurich Innovation Director Michael Duebner made a presentation last week on the proposed changes, which have been in the works since June. Business owners and the Lake Zurich police department were consulted on the proposed changes which would reduce the number of licence classifications to 18 and set the times for all alcohol sales to be between 6 a.m. and 2 a.m.

The village board is expected to vote on the proposal at the December 5 meeting.
