Lake Zurich School Picked as Blue Ribbon School

The U.S. Department of Education announced its selections for the coveted award this past week.

Seven Lake County schools have been honored with a coveted National Blue Ribbon School designation by the U.S. Department of Education. The schools were among 349 recognized this year — 300 public and 49 private — for their academic excellence. The schools selected as a National Blue Ribbon School are:

  • Libertyville High School in Libertyville
  • Meridian School in Buffalo Grove
  • South Park Elementary School in Deerfield
  • Saint Bede Elementary School in Ingleside, which is a private school
  • Saint Francis de Sales School in Lake Zurich, which is a private school
  • Saint Francis Xavier School in Wilmette, which is a private school
  • Sacred Heart School in Winnetka, which is a private school

Now in its 36th year, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has highlighted more than 8,800 educational institutions that have test scores in the top 15 percent in their state and no major gaps among students from different demographics.

The U.S. Department of Education announced its selections on Monday and will honor the schools at an award ceremony in Washington, D.C. in November.
