Long Grove Hosts Old McHenry Rd. Project Groundbreaking Ceremony

Project will correct stormwater issues, and add fire hydrants, period-style lighting, sidewalks, benches and landscaping to the downtown.

Village streets will be open during the project, and will accommodate the popular yearly festivals held in the Village.

The Village of Long Grove held a groundbreaking ceremony at Towner Green on Monday, March 26, 2018 to kick off for the much-anticipated Old McHenry Road reconstruction project.

"This marks the start of a reconstruction project that will provide excellent enhancements for our downtown area, with new sidewalks, a streetscape and lighting,” said Village President Bill Jacob. “Further extending our municipal water system into the downtown is an amenity that will help us attract new businesses to the Village.”

The project begins with the extension of the public watermain through the downtown area and is expected to be complete by the end of May 2018.

The Lake County reconstruction of Old McHenry Road and the downtown streetscape project will immediately follow the watermain improvements; it will include the installation of new fire hydrants around the downtown, and address stormwater issues. Additionally, a traffic signal will be added at the intersection of Robert Parker Coffin Road and Old McHenry Road to reduce rush hour traffic backups, as well as add period style street lighting, ADA accessible sidewalks, benches, and landscaping along the full length of Old McHenry Road (modeled after Archer Road).

Old McHenry Road will remain open to motorists during the entire construction schedule. Residents and visitors are encouraged to support downtown Long Grove businesses during this construction project. Special accommodations will be made as the construction project will halt on the Wednesdays prior to all downtown festivals, including during Chocolate Fest May 18-20, Strawberry Fest June 22-24, Vintage Days August 18-19 and Irish Days September 1-3, and Apple Fest September 21-23, 2018.

The project is expected to be completed by mid-November of this year.
