LZHS Senior Has Big Goal: End World Hunger

Samantha Milbourn has a plan to care for our nation's hungry and poverty-stricken and she needs financial guidance to see the plan through.

Samantha Milbourn, like many Lake Zurich High School seniors, is planning for college; she will attend Concordia University in Wisconsin and work towards a degree in physical therapy.

Unlike most 17-year-olds, Samantha is also planning an end to world hunger and poverty.

“My ideal dream is that the worst part of poverty, the hundreds of thousands of people living on the street, have a home, that they don’t have to say that park bench is where I sleep at night,” she said.

Samantha’s plan is to collect $1 from every American, every 10 years. That approximate $315 million could go a long way towards feeding the nation’s hungry, she said.

Samantha is seeking an adult with financial expertise who could help her work out the legal details of the plan. She recently attended a Lake Zurich village board meeting to propose her plan. She can be contacted at smilbourn@sbcglobal.net

Samantha has long had compassion for the poor.

“In our every day lives, you see people who can’t afford meals. I know it’s part of our culture to walk by and not pay attention.  I didn’t like seeing that (beggars) and I would always give change or whatever I could do,” she said.

Samantha said she’s received a lot of encouragement from adults in her efforts.

“I would love for anyone able to participate to help get it going. The only way to solve something as big as world poverty is to get the whole world involved,” she said.
