NORTH BARRINGTON, IL — One person was taken to the hospital Saturday by first responders after falling through the ice on a North Barrington lake, the Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department reported. The fire department said their crews responded Saturday afternoon to a report of a person who fell through the ice while skating on Honey Lake in the 400 block of Signal Hill Road. According to the fire department, 911 was called and bystanders were able to get a boat and rope to pull the person out of the water with help from members of the fire department, before they were taken to a hospital to be checked out.

The department wants to remind everyone to please stay off the ice, and shared a guide to ice thickness, posted below. The department added the warning that no ice is 100 percent safe on lakes and ponds, and recent warm temperatures make ice unsafe, as thickness can vary from one area to another.
