HAWTHORN WOODS, IL – A Hawthorn Woods Police Department officer on routine patrol in a neighborhood came upon a fire and quickly jumped into action early Friday. The officer was able to quickly evacuate residents from the home before fire crews arrived to the home on Heather Lane at about 1:04 a.m. Friday, according to a news release from the village of Lake Zurich.

Firefighters found the blaze coming from the deck area in the rear of the residence, village officials said. They were able to quickly extinguish the fire.

The blaze did not extend into the home and no one was injured. Fire officials believe a discarded smoking material caused the blaze. The total damage to the home is totaled at $2,000.
