Several Fire Departments Fight Marsh Fire in Hawthorn Woods

Several fire departments responded to a marsh fire in Hawthorn Woods Sunday afternoon.

The blaze started behind 8 Westwind Court and spread through a large marsh area that was surrounded by many large homes in the area, according to a Lake Zurich Fire Department press release. No one was injured and none of the homes were damaged.

Due to the terrain and size and extent of the fire, Lake Zurich called for mutual aid. Fire departments first responding fought the fire while additional fire departments protected neighboring homes and controlled hot spots, according to the news release.

The following fire departments assisted at the scene: Arlington Heights, Barrington-Countryside, Buffalo Grove, Cary, Countryside, Fox Lake, Fox River Grove, Hoffman Estates, Lake Villa, Lincolnshire, Long Grove, Mundelein, Nunda, Palatine, Palatine Rural, Round Lake, Wauconda, and Wheeling.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
