LAKE ZURICH, IL — The Lake Zurich Fire Department said crews responded Monday to a business in the 700 block of South Rand Road for an activated fire alarm. The first fire department units arrived on the scene in less than five minutes, where the department said they found smoke inside the closed building. According to a release from the fire department, responding crews investigating the cause of the smoke found a laundry bin smoldering in the kitchen area, and put the fire thanks to the help of a single sprinkler head from an installed sprinkler system.

According to the department, the fire was accidental and caused by spontaneous combustion of oily rags in the kitchen area. The department said there was a preliminary damage estimate of $500, and more than $1,000,000 in property and contents were saved.

No injuries were reported, according to the department.
