What's Open, What's Closed on the Fourth of July

This Fourth of July marks the 237th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia.

The Fourth of July is a federal, state and local holiday. Any office run by or affiliated with federal, state or local government, it is almost certainly closed.

Locally, these offices are closed Thursday:

  • Lake Zurich Village Hall is closed. It will reopen on Friday, July 5.
  • Ela Township municipal offices are closed. The office will reopen on Friday, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Ela Area Public Library is closed. Its hours on Friday are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Lake County offices, including courts, are closed. Only a few offices will reopen on Friday with regular business hours including the Clerk’s office, Treasurer’s department and Record of Deeds.
  • Post offices are closed.
  • Banks: most, if not all, will be closed.
  • Retail: Many retail stores, restaurants and entertainment establishments are open, but check before you go.
