Avli Taverna To Open In Lincoln Park

The owner of the new Greek restaurant is hoping to open its doors by the end of the month.

CHICAGO — Wrightwood Avenue is about to get a new Greek cuisine dining option. Avli Taverna, a sequel to Avli Restaurant in Winnetka, will open by the end of the month, its owner said. The new eatery, at 1335 W. Wrightwood Ave., will include dishes from the lesser-known Greek cuisine regions, including Crete and the Ionian Islands.

Avli Taverna's menu will feature an all-Greek wine list, which will include ouzo, the popular Greek aperitif, which is poured over ice. The menu will also include over a dozen main courses and appetizers, with vegetarian options.

Avli Taverna's owner Louie Alexakis teamed up with William V. Glastris Jr. and sportscaster Lou Canellis to create the new Lincoln Park eatery, according to the Chicago Tribune.

“We’re just waiting for the liquor license,” Alexakis told the Tribune. “We’ve passed everything else. If we don’t have the license by the end of the month, I’ll just open and not serve liquor for a week or two.”

The 50-seat restaurant will be open for dinner initially, and lunch and brunch menus will be added later.
