CPS Takes Back Acceptance Letters From Kids Who Thought They Got Into Coveted School

Multiple letters of acceptance for LaSalle Language Academy in Old Town were sent out by mistake.

CHICAGO, IL - Parents of some students who received acceptance letters from a North Side magnet school that specializes in foreign language education may share the same feeling Ms. Columbia did last December when talk-show host Steve Harvey announced the wrong winner of Ms. Universe

An unknown number of acceptance letters that were sent out by Chicago Public Schools last week to students applying at LaSalle Language Academy in Old Town were done so erroneously, DNAinfo Chicago reports.

Some of the students who received the letters were supposed to inform them they would be placed on the wait list instead.

While most of the acceptance letters were received in the mail last Thursday, an email on Monday from Chicago Public Schools explained it as an "error in assigning transfer students to LaSalle.”

"I am deeply sorry to have to inform you of this change," wrote Kathryn Ellis, CPS’ executive director of access and enrollment, in the email. "While I understand that LaSalle might have been your family's preferred option, we are committed to working with you to find the best option that fits the needs of your child."

Located at 1734 N. Orleans St., LaSalle Language Academy offers students the ability to study either Chinese, French, Italian or Spanish from kindergarten through eighth grade.
