Police said a DePaul University student lied about being kidnapped in Lincoln Park.

CHICAGO — A DePaul University student lied about being kidnapped in Lincoln Park earlier this week, according to police. The 19-year-old student told police he was taken at gunpoint to the West Side and was then robbed; however police said he went there on his own.

Earlier this week, student told police that he was forced into a car at gunpoint behind the McDonald's at Halsted and Fullerton Tuesday around 8 p.m. The student told police that he was walking in the alley behind the restaurant, when two men and a woman went up to him with the firearm and made him get into a black car. He claimed the suspects then drove to an off-campus location and robbed him.

Police confirmed he was robbed on the West Side, but was never kidnapped.
