Feigenholtz Highlights New Law Aimed at Promoting Illinois-Produced Products
The Lincoln Park lawmaker says, "Every dollar spent locally allows businesses to grow and hire more employees."

Legislation supported by state Rep. Sara Feigenholtz (D-Chicago) to promote Illinois-based products was recently signed into law.
“When residents patronize local restaurants and businesses, they are helping companies that are invested in our community,” Feigenholtz said. “Every dollar spent locally allows businesses to grow and hire more employees, while also creating stability in our neighborhoods.”
The new law supported by Feigenholtz designates the first Saturday of every month as “Eat Local, Buy Illinois Day.” The measure aims to assist current efforts by the Illinois Department of Agriculture to promote local foods and products. It is estimated that if each household in Illinois spent $10 a month on Illinois products, an additional $2.4 billion would be generated in economic activity.

“As part of efforts by state and local leaders to strengthen the business community, we must enlist the support of our most important resources—our citizens,” Feigenholtz said. “We can all do our part to support local businesses by buying locally grown food and made products.”
