Lincoln Park teen selected as 2014 Bank of America Student Leader

Lincoln Park resident Jackson Schultz is one of five Chicagoland teens selected for the 2014 Bank of America Student Leaders Program.

Jackson Schultz, a Lincoln Park resident and rising senior at Jones College Prep, is one of five Chicagoland teens selected to be part of the 2014 Bank of America Student Leaders program this summer. The program, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, awards the students a paid, eight-week summer internship at a local nonprofit and a trip to Washington, D.C. to participate in the Bank of America Student Leadership Summit.

Schultz is passionate about helping equip Chicago’s underprivileged youth with the tools to make good decisions and prepare for adulthood. The two opportunities he has taken advantage of to enact these passions are becoming a Counselor in Training (CIT) at the Metro Chicago YMCA Camp Pinewood in 2013, a camp he attended throughout his youth, and by creating the Jones College Prep Politics Club and serving as president. As a CIT, Schultz learned firsthand the necessity of mentoring to ensuring that children make emotional connections with those around them to help them reach their full potential. Additionally, Schultz believes it is crucial that students be educated about politics to be successful, and doing so will also help them learn from others and work better together.

As part of the Bank of America Student Leaders program, Schultz is interning at WITS (Working in the Schools) of Chicago where he is supporting its WITSummer in the Parks and WITSummer Early Childhood programs. The internships provide students with valuable work experience while also supporting the nonprofits with extra help this summer.
