The man was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, where he later died, authorities said.

CHICAGO — A CTA train struck and killed a man Monday morning at the Belmont station in the Lake View neighborhood. Red, Brown and Purple line service was halted for about an hour.

The man was hit by a Red Line train at 7:51 a.m. at the station, 945 W. Belmont Ave. He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he later died, police said.

By 8:45 a.m., trains were running again and bypassing the Belmont stop on the southbound side, CTA said. Only two of the four tracks were being used.

Passengers still experienced delays for several hours after the incident, and were advised to either take a bus or use the Blue Line service instead. CTA also arranged a bus shuttle for passengers.

CTA issued an apology for sending conflicting information after station attendants told passengers at Argyle not to board because southbound trains were turning back at Wilson.
