New Broadway Wine Shop Will be Upscale Yet Affordable

Wine House will feature fine wines, accessories and wine tastings.

Wine lovers, get excited.

Wine House, an upscale and affordable wine shop, will be opening at 3164 Broadway Ave. in spring of 2014. The store will specialize in fine wines from across the world — but it will also focus on being an affordable, fun store for everyone, with wines starting at just $10.

"It's multi-faceted in terms of what we're about," said Steven Greenberg, who co-owns Wine House with his partner. "We want to be part of the community, we want to run a successful business and we want people to feel that we're a little beyond walking into a grocery store a drug store. People can come in and they can ask an expert and ... be able to get recommendations of wines to try, the temperature to store it at, when to open the bottle, all of that stuff!"

The store will feature wines from around the world, and will also offer wine tastings and a cooler full of wine ready to be brought to one of Lake View's many BYOB restaurants.

Greenberg's background is as a retailer, and he's assisted with "everything you see with your eyes" at the Ikea locations in Boilingbrook, Schaumburg and around Canada. His partner, who is a physician, and him have always enjoyed traveling and always manage to do a wine tasting where ever they go.

"We always have a great time [at wine tastings]," Greenberg said. "It's amazing what wine can do — it really does bring people together."

Construction is about two-thirds the way done at the Lake View store, and the owners are currently in the process of getting zoning board and liquor license approval.

"We're really excited about getting this going," Greenberg said. "We're looking forward to it — we have a lot of plans!"

The store will feature a TV that will air sitcom episodes about wine and clips from the movie "Sideways," photos of famous alcohol lovers and music.

"It will be a place that's fun," Greenberg said. "There will be music, it's just going to be a fun neighborhood place to come."

Wine House will also specialize in market accessories — such as corkscrews, aerators, wine buckets and ice buckets from Italy that will stay within their affordable prices.
