NEWCITY Welcomes Sweetwaters Coffee and Tea to Chicago

Sweetwaters Coffee and Tea, a coffeehouse known for its classic café fare and globally influenced coffees and teas, will open its first Chicago location on Saturday, January 30th at the NEWCITY retail/restaurant/residential complex located at 1457 North Halsted Street. Opening day will feature a Friends, Family, & Community Charity Day from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. where 50% of all sales will support the Center on Halsted, a comprehensive community center dedicated to advancing community and securing the health and well-being of the LGBTQ people of Chicagoland.

“We are thrilled to be opening a new Sweetwaters location in Chicago,” explains franchise owner Tom Dilenno. “Our guests will find an exclusive selection of globally inspired beverages to choose from, most of which are made using real ingredients such as fresh strawberries, pure whipped cream that’s made daily, authentic matcha tea and house-made Cold Brew to name a few.”

Popular menu items include a Cold Brew that is naturally sweet, incredibly smooth and “brewed with love” for 18 hours. The French Vietnamese Au Lait features a dark-roasted French Chicory coffee with sweetened condensed milk resulting in an Asian finish to a French roasted coffee. The popular Crème Caramel is a perfectly energizing, caramel-coated vanilla latte topped with house-made whipped cream. The delicious Ginger Lemon Tea offers an Asian spice combination of citrus and ginger.

Of course, guests will still be able to enjoy their favorite cappuccinos, espressos, and lattes among the rest of Sweetwaters’ proprietary drinks. Additionally, the café will offer a delectable selection of pastries, desserts, and made-to-order breakfast & lunch sandwiches.

As a community-focused business, Sweetwaters has partnered with local high schools and middle schools through their Great Grades Program which rewards students who receive three or more A’s with a complimentary drink.

Additionally, Sweetwaters hopes to create meaningful relationships with nonprofits and neighboring businesses. In addition, local artists will be invited to showcase their artwork in the café or create a drawing for the “chalk wall” which changes monthly.

“Once capacity restrictions are lifted, we look forward to hosting a variety of events such as an official grand opening party and our “Acoustic Music Nights,” adds Dilenno. “But for now, we will help our neighbors stay caffeinated and provide a safe and clean environment.”

On Saturday, February 13th at 10:00 a.m., Sweetwaters will host a virtual Global Traveler Tasting Event for up to 20 people who want to experience the brand’s global flavors of coffees, teas and lemonades. Guests can purchase tickets for $30 at Sweetwaters or at the SWNEWCITY Facebook page and pick up their “tasting 6-pack” with two bonus drinks in the café.
