Patrick Kane Breaks Bobby Hull's Blackhawks Record
A late assist against the Winnipeg Jets keeps the star's point-streak - now 22 games - alive.
Patrick Kane broke Bobby Hull’s longstanding Chicago Blackhawks franchise record Sunday night, earning a point for the 22nd straight game, during the team’s 3-1 victory over the Winnipeg Jets.
The record almost didn’t happen. It took a Kane assist on an Artemi Panarin empty-netter with 1:46 left in the game to get in the point-column.
Kane broke a mark that had stood for more than four decades, as Hull earned a point in 21 straight games during the 1971-72 season. He former Blackhawk said before the game he was rooting for Kane to break the team record, and hopes he can chase the all-time point-streak record, which Wayne Gretzky set at 51.
The record-breaking night for Kane was bittersweet for Blackhawks fans, as Trevor Daley was knocked out of the game in the second period and may miss some serious time.
From the Chicago Sun-Times:
“Daley was bent over after firing the puck out of his own zone, and was run into by Winnipeg’s Chris Thorburn, whose knee hit Daley in the head/neck area. Daley was on the ice for a few minutes, and a stretcher was brought out. But he eventually was able to stand with help, and was led off the ice — very gingerly — and to the dressing room. He did not return, and the Hawks seemed to play out the rest of that second period in a fog, the energy of the game sucked out of the arena.”
