CHICAGO — The city's largest no-kill organization is hosting its spring Adopt-A-Thon this weekend. PAWS Chicago is working with the Petco Foundation to find homes for more than 100 pets. On Saturday, April 27, and Sunday, April 28, the PAWS Chicago Lincoln Park Adoption Center will extend its adoption hours for this "lifesaving" marathon, organizers said.

"With so many litters being born during the spring season, in addition to the abundance of homeless pets already in need of a loving home, even more animals are at risk of euthanasia in our community’s open admission shelters," the PAWS organization said in a statement. "By promoting adoption and spay/neuter, PAWS Chicago works to build a No Kill community where all healthy and treatable pets are given a second chance to find a loving home."

By rallying the community and generating more adoptions, PAWS can take in and save more dogs and cats from high-risk shelters, the organization said. When you adopt a pet from a no kill animal shelter or rescue organization, you are saving two lives — the pet you adopt and another pet who can take his or her place, PAWS said.
