Over 200 participated in a technology-forward virtual fundraiser for A Silver Lining Foundation (ASLF) … which, with matching grants, brought in a whopping $300,000! Dr. Sandy Goldberg, a breast cancer survivor and Co-Founder - with her husband, Greg - of ASLF commented: “Our goal was to have a smashing event, and raise as much money as possible to continue our work with women (and men) in need of breast health testing. Every $5,000 that we raise allows 37 women to get a free mammogram!” Lincoln Park resident Pattie Sheehan, owner of Second Act Chicago - which provides hope for individuals facing the challenges of living with cancer by providing products to help regain and maintain a positive self-image - was one of the socially distanced supporters on-site at the Hyatt to support Dr. Sandy and Greg at ASLF’s virtual fundraiser.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, like many fundraisers, A Sterling Event benefitting A Silver Lining Foundation went virtual. Broadcasting from the brand new Tap Room in the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place Hotel – the event was a special presentation utilizing new and innovative technology under the direction of executive producer Jack Hazan, who engaged the services of an international audio-visual production team along with a national company specializing in mobile bidding platforms. This combination of technical expertise, creative artistry, and know-how resulted in a unique experience for all who virtually attended! Guests were treated to a live-broadcast interfaced with both remote live feeds and prerecorded testimonials from local celebrities. WGN’s Paul Lisnek was emcee, WGN anchor Micah Materre led viewers through steps for making the signature Silvertini cocktail, and ASLF’s anthem, I Believe was premiered in a heartwarming performance by singer Opal Staples.

Through ASLF, Dr. Sandy Goldberg, who believes “every person deserves a chance to survive,” has positively impacted the lives of over 29,000 in need of breast health testing! “At A Silver Lining Foundation, we turn no one away … if you can get to us, we can help you. Many have lost their jobs due to COVID-19 - and with the loss of a job, comes a loss of insurance. This situation left women scheduled to have a mammogram or a diagnostic breast testing in a potentially life-threatening situation. The numbers of those needing access to cost free breast health testing has always been significant and continues to rise. Because of the pandemic ASLF is experiencing calls for help from hundreds of women who were previously insured and had no place to turn. Thanks to our hospital partners and to our generous donors, we will be able to help,” comments Dr. Goldberg.
