As a board member with the Alzheimer’s Association, I witness first-hand the essential support services we provide to families in Illinois living with dementia. Personally, I was caregiver for my Mother as she suffered with dementia. After her passing 18 years ago, I made a commitment to fight this terrible disease. The Association has made major advances in care, support and research in these 18 years. We must continue to do so.
As COVID-19 wreaks havoc on our families, our local businesses, our government and our medical facilities, its impact also extends to non-profits like the Alzheimer’s Association - not able to raise the private funds we have come to count on. As we cannot abandon our support for families, it is imperative that non-profits like ours be included in government relief efforts.
The Association is an essential lifeline to millions of families across the country, and my Senators, Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth, and Congressman, Mike Quigley, have been steadfast leaders in the fight to eradicate Alzheimer’s disease. I now humbly ask for their help again. Please support the Health Charities Rapid Response to COVID-19 by expanding access to credit for nonprofits. Specifically we are asking Congress to establish an exclusive fund to support nonprofit employers with 500 to 10,000 employees, including loan forgiveness.
