Threat Prompts Heightened Security At Lincoln Park High School

Police have been patroling the school and all students are required to put their personal items through metal detectors and X-ray machines.

CHICAGO — Heightened security measures have been in place at Lincoln Park High School after a threat was found written on a bathroom wall in the school. The school's principal sent an email alert to parents, students and staff about the potential threat, which referenced a shooting on Friday, Dec. 14.

All students are now required to scan their book bags and personal items through X-ray machines and metal detectors while an investigation into the threat is underway. Plain clothes officers have also been patroling the school's perimeter.

The Chicago Police Department and Chicago Public Schools officials said they are taking the threat very seriously. Police said no additional evidence has been found that there is a threat to the school.

The date of the threat referenced on the bathroom wall marks the anniversary of the school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut. On Dec. 14, 2012, a gunman killed 20 children and six staff members, before taking his own life.

Details about the investigation into the threat at Lincoln Park High School have not been released.
