Windy City Cannabis Opens Rec Shop On Weed Street

Windy City Cannabis accepting pre-orders for Weed Street recreational pot shop on June 30; doors open July 1.

CHICAGO (LINCOLN PARK) — What’s more appropriate than a new recreational weed shop opening on Weed Street? Windy City Cannabis, which has four med-rec locations in south suburbs, is opening a recreational cannabis store at 923 W. Weed St. in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood. The dispensary will be available for pre-order on June 30, with doors opening on July 1. Only adult-use, recreational cannabis will be available.

Windy City Cannabis is a Chicagoland born-and-bred hometown dispensary, with locations in Worth, Homewood, Justice and Posen. Originally opening as medical cannabis dispensaries, the south suburban locations were granted same-site state licenses hours before legal recreational sales went into effect Jan. 1.

The company was founded by Steven Weisman, a former attorney from Lincoln Park, who is the company's CEO. After practicing law for a few years with a downtown Chicago law firm and working in mergers and acquisitions, Weisman went back to business school to earn his MBA. He became interested in medical marijuana after visiting a friend’s dispensary in California.

“Bringing Windy City Cannabis to Weed Street is a dream come true,” Weisman said in a news release. “When we started out in 2014 with our original locations in the south suburbs, our goal was always to bring our inclusive and welcoming brand to Chicago proper, and we couldn’t think of a better place to launch that dream.”

The company believes in cannabis access for all, serving people from all walks of life, and connecting communities to high quality, hand-selected, locally-grown products and services. As part of Windy City’s mission, The Weed Street location has filled 33 new jobs, with a focus on inclusive hiring that will drive equitable, diverse growth opportunities within the cannabis industry.

The 1,100-square-foot dispensary will include four point of sale stations. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday 10 a.m.to 8 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information on Windy City Cannabis, visit the company’s website.
